the fairy garden
A few weeks ago my Mom and I were spending a Saturday together, just the two of us, and she had the wonderful idea to do a “make a fairy garden” workshop. Not sure how she found out about it but the class was provided by Cottage Home and Garden in the adorable Los Rios District of San Juan Capistrano. After sitting through the instructional portion of the workshop we wandered around the nursery area of the shop picking out a container for our garden, the plants, and of course miniature accessories. Being the savvy shoppers we are Mom and I decided to build one together because one could easily spend upwards of $100 for one garden. Here’s a few shots of what we came up with…

I especially love the overgrown structure that looks like it’s been forgotten and gone unvisited for a long time. Oh, and little St. Francis is pretty awesome too. I look forward to doing this again and next time I’ll attempt an all succulent garden and the time after that an herb garden. As you can probably tell I would recommend this. Designing, planting and even maintaining a miniature garden is very therapeutic.
*Oh, the girls love the garden too. They’ve learned not to pick any of the plants or rearrange the garden but only at the expense of poor St. Francis’ head. Within an half hour of having the garden home Charlotte dropped him and his head came clean off. Thank goodness for super glue!
